A hairy matter

How to look after your hair the right way

Showering, bathing, shaving, moisturising, plucking our eyebrows, styling our hair – we have so many different ways of spending time in the bathroom. In our opinion, it’s the hair care that takes up the most time. What with washing, rinsing, drying, grooming, and styling – the whole procedure for good hair care can really get out of hand. Here are 5 tips for what’s really important for your crowning glory.

1. Washing your hair

Good hair care starts with washing. Hard to believe but there are things you can do wrong when you wash. That’s why it’s important not to use too much shampoo and avoid aggressive shampoos. Ideally squeeze out a walnut-sized amount and rub it well in your hands. Massage the shampoo in well at the roots. Don’t rub it in to the lengths and tips. But don’t worry, they’ll still get clean without excessive rubbing. When you rinse, enough water and shampoo will flow over the lengths and tips so that they are perfectly cleaned. Another important thing to remember: don’t wash your hair too hot. Hot water can irritate the scalp. Lukewarm water is ideal so that the scalp doesn’t dry out and the hair doesn’t become brittle. Tip: to finish off, rinse quickly in cold water for added shine.

FRESH shampoo gently cleanses the hair, and lends it a beautiful, natural sheen. Carefully chosen ingredients give the hair natural suppleness and elasticity.

2. A little bit of extra care

It doesn’t matter whether you use it after a shampoo, or simply apply it to dry hair in between times – FRESH hair treatment is amazingly versatile.
Here’s a quick rundown of the 4 ways you can use it:

1. Massage FRESH hair treatment into wet hair lengths and tips and then rinse out.
2. After shampooing, apply FRESH hair treatment to towel-dry hair lengths and leave your hair to dry.
3. Use FRESH hair treatment as a care product for dry hair in between times. Simply apply a small quantity to hair lengths and tips.
4. Apply FRESH hair treatment to your scalp as a mask before shampooing.

FRESH hair treatment offers a little bit of extra care for dry, damaged hair. It delivers rich grooming to give you soft, supple and shiny hair. The natural ingredients restore lipids to the hair and have an anti-static effect, making it easier for you to brush and style your hair.

3. Don’t rub, and no heat

There’s also a right way to squeeze out our hair. To avoid damage: don’t rub it dry with a towel and don’t squeeze it hard. Instead, gently press the hair, pat with a towel, and carefully roll it into the towel. Letting your hair dry naturally is the gentlest treatment of all, but if you don’t like that, let your hair dry in the towel for a while first and then use the hairdryer. That way, your hair has less exposure to the hot hairdryer. Ideally, you should use the cold setting on your hairdryer to protect your hair – because if hair is regularly exposed to heat, there is a risk of split ends, brittle hair and dryness. And one absolute no-no: straightening wet hair – the evaporation of the water can lead to structural damage.

4. Well-brushed is half the battle

The best brush for your hair is one with natural bristles. And there’s a general rule for hairbrushes: they need care too! All sorts of things collect on a hairbrush – dead skin, dust, hair, residue from styling products. This dirt is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria – so clean your hairbrush regularly. Firstly remove all the hair from the brush. Put the hairbrush into a mix of warm water, shampoo and baking powder. Use an old toothbrush to clean out the spaces between the bristles, and then dry the hairbrush well.

5. Night night, sleep tight!

We also need to give our hair the right care when we’re asleep. So that friction between the hair and your pillow doesn’t cause too much damage, you should put your hair in a plait, ponytail or bun. And use an “invisibobble” – in other words, a hair tie that doesn’t leave any marks. At night the wrong pillowcase can also damage the hair: contact with synthetic materials roughens the hair when we move in our sleep.

In addition to this external care, our hair and skin can also be strengthened from within thanks to the vital substances in CAPS beauty & hair.

If you have any concerns about dryness, dandruff or itching, we recommend that you consult a dermatologist.
